Seniors / Cap & Gown
My job is to bring out the artist, the athlete, the genius, the fashionista, the skater, the singer inside of you, so you can look back in later years and celebrate this big transition in life.
FAQ
When should I book my senior session?
Usually, senior casuals are scheduled for the spring or summer before the fall of your senior year. When booking senior casuals I take the senior into account, hobbies, sports, favorite places in the local area that might hold a special memory to them. I like to build my sessions around each senior and no 2 senior casual sessions are the same.
Keep in mind that you’ll need enough time to receive your photos (10 days), print them or order announcement cards, and mail them before graduation.
Fall and spring also have the best weather for outdoor photos, and my calendar tends to fill up quickly, so it’s best to schedule your session in advance.
If you’d like to wear your cap & gown in some of your photos, you may need to wait until the Spring. Or, you could find a past senior from your school who has a gown you could borrow.
How many pictures will we receive?
I do not limit the number of digitals you receive. Most of my galleries, other than weddings, will receive at a minimum 50+ fully edited images, most times many more!
I do offer professional prints products, but you are not obligated to purchase them when booking sessions with me.
What if it rains?
All of my sessions happen rain or shine! It might be very hot, very cold, very windy, a little rainy, or a little snowy and still the photo session will go on! The weather in Hampton Roads, VA and Outer Banks, NC is unpredictable and I can not guarantee your session will happen on a perfect, sunny day. What I can guarantee is that we will make memorable and beautiful photos of your family whether you Sessions are meant to document your life, even on rainy days, so bring an umbrella!
If you feel like the weather is not your friend that day, let me know and we can look for alternate days.
(Note that we will reschedule if the weather conditions make it too dangerous to be outside, lightning on the beach, hurricane, tornado, etc.)
Are Family Pets allowed?
Sure! Pets are totally family members! Let’s just make sure they’re groomed, well behaved, and on a leash. Bring plenty of treats and a few chew toys, to be safe.
Should I bring someone with me?
It can be helpful to bring someone with you to hold your exta outfits, makeup for touch-ups, hairbrush, etc. Just make sure that this person is someone who will make you feel comfortable and be a postitive (not critical) voice during your session.
Where will we take our pictures?
Our sessions could not be more different than stuffy, indoor photoshoots in front of a backdrop and lights. We love taking photos that show off the location, whether that be the natural beauty of the country, the beautiful beach or the quirky and colorful backgrounds in downtown Norfolk in the Art District.
I want to customize your session to include your favorite colors, clothing styles, hobbies, and locations. We’re ready to hear your ideas, and we’ll share our ideas too!
If you do not have a pre-selected location for your session, I will offer a list of my favorite places to photograph in and around Hampton Roads, VA & The Outer Banks of NC. Each location has pros and cons and each has a different look and feel. During your pre-portrait consultation, I’ll help you decide which is the best location to tell your story.
How should I dress for my senior session?
Be yourself, be yourself, be yourself. This is the most important rule! It’s so easy to get lost in Pinterest boards and Instagram posts and end up forgetting what your style actually is. Stick to…
Clothes that have been your favorites for a long time or
New clothes that you loved as soon as you saw them. Don’t try to talk yourself into a new style.
Choose outfits you’re comfortable in. Make sure your clothes fit properly and are not requiring constant adjustment. Don’t wear clothing that wrinkles easily, unless you’re okay with the wrinkles in the photos or want to pay extra to have them digitally lessened/removed. Make sure your bra strap doesn’t keep slipping out and shirts don’t gape open at the buttons when seated.
Don’t forget the shoes and accessories! There’s nothing like a great hat, a pair of suspenders, or a cute headband to complete an outfit.
When will my gallery be available for viewing?
Summer months, May - September, are my busiest months. I do try to have your gallery available to you within 1 - 2 weeks, but I do send out a couple sneak peeks within 24 hours of the session.
Will you bring any props?
I won't bring any props, but you're welcome to bring whatever you'd like! A chalkboard or letterboard with "Class of X" or "I did it!" would be cool. Check Michaels or Hobby Lobby. I like to only include a couple props, if any, so the focus stays on the senior. If you have a college t-shirt or sign, that could also be nice.
